A Farmhouse Kitchen and Skirted Sink
I don't give too many room tours but everything about my kitchen right now screams DIY.
My kitchen cabinets are getting old and in need of a paint job.
I'd love a farmhouse sink but my sink is on an angle and it's impossible to put one here.
So... I like to add farmhouse style with DIY accessories.
Today I'm removing the door under the sink and replacing it with a DIY grain sack skirt.
I began by taping off a length of drop cloth fabric and painting barn red stripes.
I created a skirt by folding over the fabric and running a seam.
I used the original hem of the fabric as the bottom and fringed the other edges.
I ran an aluminum rod through the skirt seam and bent the ends.
The rod is hung on 2 screw hooks and can be easily removed for washing.
I think it adds even more farmhouse character to my DIY kitchen.
The IKEA cart in the foreground is one of my most popular posts and I was psyched when it was featured on Apartment Therapy's The Kitchn.
I added a slab of marble to the top and I use it as extra counter space.
The pot rack is refashioned from an old garden table.
Behind the photographer is the desk area I chalk painted and turned into a free standing hutch.
To the left of this hutch is the dog fence I built so the jack wouldn't climb over.
Below the cabinets bun feet were added.
They were up-cycled from an antique headboard.
Across the counter is our dining table.
The painting of The Hands was done by my oldest daughter and given to me for my 50th birthday.
In the background is the tripod floor lamp made from a telescope base.
Over the kitchen table is my DIY Farmhouse Lamp.
That trompe-l'oeil chalkboard is painted right on the wall.
One of my favorite things is the crib spring memo board I copied from my friend Donna at Funky Junk Interiors.
Around the other side of this very "U" shaped kitchen is what was once the dining room.
We now use this room as a cut through to the living room.
This is where you can find my refurbished china cabinet and rolling bar cart.
And that my friends is my very link-heavy DIY kitchen.
