How to Make a Rustic Coffee Table


I needed a new coffee table since my oldest daughter
made off with the very awesome one I made from an 
armoir door.




I've checked around on line but nothing I could find was simple and rustic enough for me and in my price range.

I checked the thrift stores but nothing sparked my interest.

Until one day while passing through my garage that is piled high with bicycles and junk... an old garden bench caught my eye.


I found this beauty on the side of the road a couple of years ago. It weighs about 100 lbs and somehow I managed to lift it into the back of my car.

They don't get more sturdy than this!

My first step was to cut down the legs to coffee table height.

Then I began sanding the daylights out of the top.


I changed out the hardware on the drawer 
and kept sanding until all the stains and imperfections looked like they were supposed to be there.


I gave the table a coat of Annie Sloan clear wax
and after that I used CeCe Caldwell's dark stain to give it that grayish-brown Restoration Hardware color.

The boards are rustic and uneven but the wood on the 
top is now smooth as silk!




And the best part was that it was free!
