Vintage Rolling Metal Cart
These metal rolling carts are so cute but it is hard to find one in good shape. This one wasn't half bad, a little rust but no dents!
The chrome on this cart was rusty but not too far gone.
I was able to bring this cart out of the garage and make it pretty again with a few quick coats of paint.
I gave the cart a good scrubbing, I used steel wool to remove some of the rust on the legs and smooth them before painting.
I covered the red metal shelves with tape and newspaper so I could spray paint the chrome legs without taking the cart apart.
I'm being a little lazy on this one but I knew I could make it cute again with minimal effort.
I used Krylon Maxx Ultimate Cover spray paint in Silver Metallic and sprayed the legs on all sides.
The color was not exactly the chrome color on the cap I was expecting but the silver paint cleaned up the legs nicely.
When the spray paint dried I pulled off the tape and the paper.
I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® in Emperor's Silk to repaint the red.
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® sticks to metal and while this is not a shiny paint like the original red, a sealer can be added to create a satin or glossy finish.
I decided to use Miss Mustard Seed Tough Coat as my sealer.
It gives a satin finish that is both durable and smooth.
I kept the vintage appeal of this metal cart while giving it a quick makeover.
How great would this cart be as a bar cart or a coffee cart for the holidays?
I'm picturing this pretty red cart with baskets of k-cups and hot cocoa packets and jars filled with marshmallows and candy canes.
Can you see it now?
I was happy to fix up this cart so it can be enjoyed all over again for an outdoor party or a holiday party!
