How to Make a Vintage Market Stenciled Sign
My new Old Sign Stencils came today and I can't wait to get started...
My very favorite things to make are signs... stenciled, hand painted, decoupaged, you name it and I love to create them.
Some of my favorite stencils come from Old Sign Stencils created by Donna at Funky Junk Interiors.
These stencils are thick and durable. The images are large and make gorgeous signs!
Today however I'm not stenciling with my new stencils... I'm working in the living room so neatness counts. I also wanted to show you another easy way to use stencils.
I love to hand paint, I find it very calming. I started by laying out the stencil on my painted board and tracing inside each letter.
Cheating maybe but this is just another way to use these fabulous stencils. It certainly isn't as easy as stenciling but it's very therapeutic and some days that is way more important.
Once all the letters are traced onto the sign I begin hand painting. I use a small brush and black craft paint. I can watch television in the living room while peacefully hand painting my signs.
I can sit for hours just painting in the lines.
When the paint dries I lightly sand the lettering and the edges of the boards so the wood shows through.
On this sign I added an old rusty piece of metal for a hook.
The hook is perfect for hanging a wreath from this beautiful new sign.
So there you have it, a beautiful sign created with Old Sign Stencils. Check out the whole line of stencils including the gorgeous Getaway Collection stencils for the vacation lover in all of us.
