Perfectly Imperfect Reclaimed Wood Signs
Sometimes you are just not looking for perfection...
Making these perfectly imperfect reclaimed wood signs was fun and easy.
I hand painted each one and love the look that is not stenciled-on for a change.
I began with reclaimed wood I found on the side of the road one morning on my way to work. It was a lucky find and I'm kicking myself for not grabbing it all. I only took a few bundles because I was in a rush.
I roughly painted the boards using a chip brush with a gorgeous mossy green color. I bought this paint at Michael's it is a DecoArt paint and doesn't cost a fortune. They have chalky paints and regular paint like this one.
Then using a Sharpie Paint Stick (water based) I just started painting... You can get these at Michael's too in all colors.
When I was finished I added hooks, screw eyes, and even a little black shadowing using a very thin paint brush.
For those of you that don't think your handwriting is good enough to write the words yourself you can print out words on your computer and using graphite paper transfer the writing onto reclaimed boards.
I painted in the lines and created even more hand painted signs after whitewashing a few boards.

These eventually got a good sanding and a coat of hemp oil to protect them from the elements. You can seal yours with poly, tung oil, or hemp oil. Waxing chalk paint® for outside use is not recommended.
I was having so much fun!
