Making a DIY Farmhouse Bench for the Kitchen
A while back I built a farmhouse bench for my kitchen table.
Believe it or not this great sturdy bench is made from a futon I found on the side of the road.
It really couldn't have been easier.
Every piece I used for this bench came from the futon except the legs.
I've used this bench in my kitchen for a few years now and it is the sturdiest piece of furniture in the whole house.
We use it at Thanksgiving and at least 4 adults sit on the bench with no problem.... it's that long too!
When I woke up early this morning, and you know how creative I can be in the morning if you've read about my kitchen island.
The Kitchn.com loved that project and featured it on their site.
This morning I hauled the black bench down to my basement and painted it white.
With a fine piece of sandpaper I distressed the edges and let the black paint underneath show through.
It gave the bench a great chippy look.
Before the family got out of bed this morning, the bench was replaced in the kitchen and it was a bright new color.
The bench fits perfectly under the window and is a great dropping spot for book bags and shoe tying.
Notice that little hook to the left of this photo... it is my DIY Vintage Hamburger Hook.
In case you're wondering the walls in my kitchen (and the rest of my house) are painted with Benjamin Moore paint in Ballet White.
You can also see the outdoor bench I made with another found futon.
