How to Upcycle a Wooden Candlestick
What is upcycling?
This is a question I've run across recently and it got me thinking... What does it mean exactly?
Wikipedia defines upcycling as this... "Upcycling, also known as creative reuse, is the process of transforming by-products, waste materials, useless, or unwanted products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value."
Useless or unwanted products are everywhere in every thrift store.
They're exactly what I hope to transform into products of better quality... it's what I do and what I love!
For example, I see these old candlesticks like these in the thrift stores all the time.
All I can say is that every house in the '70s must have had at least one, if not 2, that now sit in every thrift store unwanted and useless.
I'm making it simple today, just 2 quick steps to create the coveted modern farmhouse look that doesn't scream 70's.
The first thing I did was to paint the dated dark wood black.
The black paint quickly made it more modern and instantly more appealing.
That piece will show up in a future upcycled project I promise.
I added a small metal tart pan, also found in the thrift store, with E6000 and one small screw.
The decorative hanger, another '70s throwback, was removed from the top of the candlestick and replaced with a large sawtooth hanger on back.
This piece can now be hung on the wall and hold some weight.
You can place anything on the cute little tray and hang it on the wall.
Faux flowers in an antique milk bottle and these faux flowers look amazing in this vase!
Here is another idea... I used a repurposed clear flower vase with a candle inside.
I even tried just a DIY tea light that I recently repurposed from an old bathroom light fixture.
What have you upcycled lately?
