Have you ever seen a candle in a lantern that was left out in the sun? Well, now imagine a wax battery operated candle...



This was one of my favorite candle lanterns from Target. It helda battery powered candle and I had it out on the deck. Problem was I forgot to move it out of the sun and the whole thing melted into a big puddle, batteries included. Good to know it was actually made of wax but it was trash now. 

I bought these baskets from the Target dollar spot and repurposed them for my patio. 
They are almost like large berry baskets and will look beautiful when I'm finished. I began by finding the center of each basket by drawing a line from corner to corner using a ruler. 

Next, I drilled a hole into the center of each basket then put a double sided screw through the bottom. The double sided screw went into an old wooden base I had leftover from a repurposed ice bucket project.

I found it at an estate sale and knew there was some potential for a great up-cycle here. 

We have a heavy metal table on our deck that we've had for years and it's been dirty chipped for a long time. 

Here's an easy farmhouse update for a tired old thrift store basket. 

The old basket began life looking like this... 



It had great moveable handles but didn't have much else that made it special. Today I'm going to make it a little more awesome by using a simple flower stencil from Old Sign Stencils.


I taped the stencil to the basket and using a foam pouncer, stenciled using black paint onto the basket. Because of the rough basket weave, I needed to grab a small stiff brush and get down inside the weave with the black paint. 


When I removed the stencil, my basket was already looking great! 

My $2 thrift store basket was ready to fill with flowers and look so much better in just minutes. 

This American flag coat rack project is perfect for summer! 
Hang it outside or inside, the size is great to hang a jacket in the entryway. It all began with a plain piece of wood and a few extra large hooks I had laying around the workshop. First, I painted the piece of wood white.  All the paint I'm using today is Fusion Mineral Paint. If you visit their site by clicking on the bold letters you will be taken to where you can purchase the paint near you. I'm using Casement white, Fort York Red, and Liberty Blue for this project. 





The next step was to tape off the stripes for my American flag. I made my stripes one tape width apart so it was easy to figure out where to put the next strip of tape. I just laid a strip down between then pulled it up.

This project began with a few butcher block  countertop samples and an idea. 
I began with a few butcher block samples from a cabinet store that went out of business but you could cut yourself a small piece or use a scrap from another project. 
I sanded the wood using an electric sander. 
My samples had a cut down the center that divides two different finishes so sanding it brought both sides back to raw. 
I used a new stencil from Old Sign Stencils for this project. 
There are several new garden stencils that are the perfect size for many projects. 
The quality is great so they will last for almost ever. 
The price of the stencils is in Canadian so the price may look a little higher but they are priced competitively.
