Rustic American Flag Stenciled Crate
Here's an easy American flag project that can be done in no time!
This project began with an old wooden crate. You can buy them at antique stores or flea markets. You may even have a few in the garage like I did.
I used Fusion Mineral Paints for this project because I use them on everything. Liberty Blue and York Red were perfect Americana colors for my flag.
I found the perfect flag stencils on Amazon. The stencils came in a pack with stars and flags in several different sizes and the cost was great. This one was the perfect size for this crate.
This part literally took minutes. I used an old brush, not a stencil brush, and just gave a quick swipe of paint along the stripes.
For the blue field I used a small stencil brush, making sure to get that tiny line that borders the stars.
And that was that! Easy and the lines and stars came out crisp and clear!
Next I wanted to give the sides a little color so I used the large star stencil that came in this pack. Using the Liberty Blue paint and a foam pouncer, I just went over the stars with one coat on each side of the crate.
Nothing fancy, just a rustic summer look for this old crate.
The only thing left to do was to fill this crate with flowers and set it out on my deck. I can change out the flowers for the season, I'm thinking a whole crate full of the red geraniums would be gorgeous for the summer.
These stencils are a simple way to add American flag designs to anything. I can't wait to think up a few more projects to decorate with stars and stripes!
