While out on a walk one morning I was thrilled to find this little beauty right on the top of someone's trash pile.

This was a super sturdy little bench but the top had certainly seen better days. 
I brought it home with me and my goal was to make it better than I found it, which wasn't hard to do.

Right away I got busy sanding the chippy top. 
It was quite damaged and pitted but it was a cute bench so totally worth the trouble. 
I painted all but the top of the bench with Raw Silk by Fusion Mineral Paint.

A fun project using an old repurposed lamp fixture.

This fun project began with a thoughtful gift from a student. 

For those of you that don't already know, my real superpower is preschool teacher. When I'm not doing DIY projects that is. Luckily, I teach part time so I have tons of time to work on projects. School just ended for the year and one of my students gave me a nasturtium seed pack.

My day began as any other day but today is the first day of my summer break, what a perfect time to add to the family!  As some of you know, we just lost our "Kitty." We had her for 23 years (yes, 23!) and it was starting to get a little lonely around here despite the fact that we have a 10 month old lab puppy. If you are a cat lover you will know what I mean. My 5th grandchild is due in August and we have a new puppy, but I needed a new cat. Call me crazy! 
My daughter and I set out to visit a few home foster places for cats but finally ended up at the Little Shelter near our home. They had room after room of large cats and a small room for kittens. I've been meaning to do this for a long time, painting this stained bench has been on the to-do list forever! 

On a recent trip to the craft store I came close to buying this pretty Fourth of July rag garland... but I didn't. 

This project started over the weekend when we wanted to get things done around the house. 

It's Summertime again and making red, white, and blue decorations for the Fourth is my favorite craft. 


It is time for Ten on the 10th and our theme is Fourth of July! 



This patriotic project began with leftover 1" x 1" oak trim pieces and little fabric flags like the ones the politicians hand out at parades.🇺🇸
You can find flags like this at the Dollar Tree.
First, I cut the wood into blocks the length of the flags, about 6".

Next, I removed the flag from the stick and wrapped it around three sides of the wooden block. 
I attached the flags to the blocks with Matte Mod Podge, first under the flag and then on top. 

When the Mod Podge dried I trimmed any overhanging flag fabric with scissors.
