Easy to Make DIY Advent Calendar
I painted the old sign with a couple of coats of Fusion Mineral Paint in Casement.
You can find a Fusion Mineral Paint dealer near you by visiting the bold link.
The paint almost always covers in one coat and is smooth and easy to use.
I had an idea for an advent calendar that was similar to a tree advent calendar I made recently.
The hanging numbered muslin bags came in a kit I bought at one time.
I wanted to hang the bags from a length of twine that wrapped around this sign.
First, I wrapped the twine around the sign to see how much was needed and how far apart the rows needed to be.
I hung all the bags with small clothespins to determine the spacing.
Then I removed the bags and the string for this next step.
I had a new stencil called Rustic Christmas Tree from Old Sign Stencils I wanted to use, it was the perfect size to decorate the background of this advent calendar.
When the stencil dried I wrapped the twine around the sign and stapled it with a staple gun on the back.
I once again attached the bags with clothespins.
At the top of the calendar I attached an old arched piece of wood with the word Christmas using another stencil from the Old Sign Stencil Collection.
I painted the sign the same color as the stenciled tree then distressed the edges.
Next, I attached the sign to the top of the calendar with a brad nailer.
The adorable simple Christmas tree stencil is slightly hidden behind the bags but when each bag is removed during the month the beautiful Christmas tree will appear.
As a bonus you can hang your Christmas cards on the clothespins when the bags are removed!
The only thing left to do is to fill each little bag with a prize or coin and let the children enjoy opening each treat as they countdown to Christmas.
