DIY Buffalo Check Cheese Board Tray
Cheese boards are a popular appetizer idea during the holidays and this DIY tray began at Thanksgiving when the idea for making one to use for Christmas hit me.
It all started with an old board I found with wooden brackets on the back.
The brackets worked well as a base for what was soon to be a tray.
On the back of the tray I added small metal feet for stability.
They were made from pieces of old snaps, I drilled a small hole into the wood and glued the snap into the hole.
For this tray I'm using the small buffalo check stencil from Old Sign Stencils.
This one fit perfectly on my board and is so easy to use with black craft paint and a dry stencil brush.
As you can see this stencil is well used.
The best thing I made with it was this vintage buffalo check sled, I take it out every year at the holidays.
When the first stencil dried, I stenciled another popular Old Sign Stencil on top of the buffalo check.
This stencil is called Christmas Trees and I've used it many times on Homeroad projects.
Two of my favorites are the Christmas Crate I stenciled for my front porch and the Shades of Grey sign I made for the holidays.
I used a very pretty green chalky paint by DecoArt for the trees.
You can find this beautiful color by visiting the Amazon affiliate links in green.
This chalky paint is great for projects, it is inexpensive and easy to use.
When the stenciled trees were dry I stained the wood using a butcher block food safe gel stain.
I added cabinet knobs I had in my collection to either side.
This tray has no sides because I want to use it as a cheese board with easy access to the cheese.
Another idea for a good sealer is Miss Mustardseed's hemp oil sealer which is food safe and washable.
