Creating a Farmhouse Look with DIY Paint
When you have a lot of time on your hands you can get a lot done. Like the vintage cupboard I've had in my garage for a few years that is finally getting a makeover!
It all began with this vintage cupboard I inherited when my school was renovated.
It has sat in my garage for a couple of years now and since I have plenty of time on my hands right now I'm going to make it gorgeous!
The first obstacle I faced was that I wanted to paint it to go with another piece I just finished but I didn't have any paint left. So I did what any good DIYer would do... I made it myself. I found 3 sample sized oops paints from Home Depot in my basement and mixed them together. You can watch this video to see how it was done.
After priming and then painting a few coats, the cupboard in the garage was looking gorgeous.
It still needed one more coat but I wanted the rustic, old, farmhouse look so when the painting was finished I heavily distressed the edges with sandpaper.
I brought the cupboard inside because it is going to be part of my office/craft room. As luck would have it the color matched the other pieces in the room almost perfectly!
On the inside I gave it good cleaning then added pegboard to the inside of the door. I'm using it to store all my craft supplies, well at least the ones that aren't in the other 2 cabinets in the room.
Just as I was finishing this project my order of farmhouse transfers came from re-design with Prima. I've gotta tell ya, I've never used a transfer before and I'm never going back! These transfers are gorgeous and so easy to use! The company recommends you wait at least 48 hours after painting a piece to add the transfer.
All I had to do was to cut out the design from a sheet of many designs and rub it onto the cupboard door with the enclosed wooden stick. That is it! I've done many posts on transfer methods for various surfaces but let me tell you none of those are easier than this! And look how many you get in a roll! I can transfer my little heart out... and you can bet I will be!
And if that wasn't enough, they have little knob transfers you can rub on your furniture knobs! Isn't this adorable?!! You can bet I have a few other ideas for these as well!
I could not be more thrilled to tell you about these awesome transfers. They were the finishing touch that my farmhouse craft cupboard needed!
Thanks for visiting and before you go please sign up for the Homeroad emails so I can send my latest DIY tutorial straight to you!
Disclosure: Redesign by Prima sent me the transfers and I couldn't be happier with them!
Disclaimer: ReDesign with Prima provided me with the transfers and they are amazing!
