Backyard Nature Trail for Kids
This project is for the children in your life. We created a backyard trail for kids with fun things to do and learn right in your own backyard.
After moving to a new house, my daughter's family decided to make some DIY improvements to the backyard including this string life project.

A perfectly manicured yard was great but the kids needed a fun area that wasn't filled with large plastic pieces.
The teacher in me was all over this project!!
Here is the answer... way in the back of the yard, behind the shed, we created a nature trail.
The trail runs behind the large cedar trees into the corner of the yard.
At the entrance we added easy to make wooden signs and a hanging flag banner.
We clipped dead limbs and lined them up around the path acting as a border for the trail.
We raked the area and added pea gravel to the entrance which makes a great platform for a small picnic bench.
On the back of the shed we created a framed chalkboard area.
Scrap wood was used to make a balance beam for the kids to make their way across,
a great way to use their imaginations as they balance across a make believe rushing river.
I made little fairy houses on wood slices that can be nailed in place using tiny nails.
Little stones and steps around the doors make the fairy doors look so real!
The kids loved creating little wooden fairies peg people that might live in these houses.
This house was painted on the top of a fence picket.
The children can use their imaginations to create a whole day of fun in the "woods" and still be in their own backyard.
A slide was added to the trail as part of an obstacle course for the kids.
We made a trip to the local beach to collect shells, driftwood and feathers to lay along the path for the kids to discover.
If you don't live near the beach you can purchase treasures on Amazon.
