Textured Cable Knit Paint Technique
I just love turning something ho-hum into something I will use to decorate my home!
Today I'm turning another clear glass flower vase from the thrift store into a cute, cute vase for Spring flowers.
You won't believe how easy it is to transform a thrift store find!
I began with this clear glass vase.
As you scroll through this post please pay attention to the bold blue links for all the details on these projects!
I recently did another project like this using a clear glass vase and wooden beads.
I mixed about a tablespoon of baking soda into 1/4 cup of paint.
I use Fusion Mineral Paint on almost everything I make but you can also use another craft paint.
The baking soda made the paint thicker, I painted it on in several different directions.
This was the first coat.
I gave the vase 2 coats using white paint.
When the vase dried I made a home made color that was a little darker than the white on the vase.
This time there was no baking soda in the second paint.
Next, I'm stenciling the vase using this fun Old Sign Stencil called Cable Knit.
I wrapped the stencil around the vase and used a foam pouncer to pounce a light coat of the second color paint onto the stencil.
I removed the stencil and when the stenciled area dried, I finished the back of the vase in the same way.
Next, I painted the bottom of this vase with the stencil color to match.
If you have any "oops areas" on your vase you can go back in with a thin paint brush to fix the lines.
Finally, I wrapped jute twine around the bottom of the vase.
I think this stencil is so cute and I am sure I'll be using it on everything!
