Flower Basket for the Fourth of July
American flag anything is great for summer decorating.
Today I'm taking an old thrift store basket and turning it into a beautiful painted flag basket for the Fourth of July.
This easy project will look great all summer!
Grab a basket and follow along!
This project began with an old thrifted basket.
Any kind of flat sided basket will work.

I taped off stripes and a field for the blue area.
I didn't have any painter's tape so I used washi tape and it stuck very well to the wicker.
First I painted the star field with blue craft paint.
Then I painted the spaces with red for the red stripes.
I pulled the tape off and had to make the blue field a little larger.
I used a thin paintbrush and filled in the spaces with white paint by hand.
Now it was time for the stars.
Normally I would use stars from this great stencil I purchased on Amazon.
Because this is wicker, it will be difficult to stencil stars on the textured basket.
I cut out one large star from card stock to fit the blue space and stenciled it onto the field.
Two quick coats of white paint in the star stencil and my basket was finished!
I gave the basket a coat of spray sealer for protection.
Just fill it with your favorite flowers and you have a beautiful basket for summer!
