Tea Towel American Flag
Here is a project it's hard not to do if you have a red striped tea towel or fabric!
Recently I made an American flag banner using strips of torn red, white and blue fabric.
The leftover tea towel is now my newest project.
Recycling fabrics and clothing is one of my favorite things to do!
Check this out...
Supplies:
Like I said, I began with the leftover scraps from a red and white tea towel.
I collect a lot of tea towels in all colors and often use them in my projects.

How I made an American Flag:
I cut the leftover tea towel fabric in half giving me 2 rectangles with the perfect stripes for an American flag.
On each piece of fabric I frayed the edges on 2 sides and left the original binding on the other sides then ironed the fabric.
I cut 2 pieces of scrap wood to the width of the tea towel fabric then hot glued and stapled it to the wood.
Next, I cut apart a pair of old jeans.
More supplies:
I also cut a rectangle from some of the blue jean leg fabric.
Using my favorite set of stars and stripes stencils I stenciled white stars on the denim using Fusion Mineral Paint in Casement.
I use Fusion Mineral Paint on almost all of my DIY projects because it not only works great on furniture, it sticks to metal, wood and fabric!
For the hangers, I used two different methods.
One hanger is a doubled length of jute twine and the other uses the seam from the blue jeans tied in knots and stapled to the back of the wooden sticks.
That's about all it took to turn an old tea towel and a pair of blue jeans that no longer fit, into a flag to hang on a wreath or the wall.
