Rustic Christmas Sign from Reclaimed Wood
Sometimes an idea comes to me because I've found something interesting then the wheels start turning!
Today's project was simply because I had extra stencils from another project and I found a board.
An old chippy board from an outdoor project that had spent the summer outdoors was perfect for this chippy Christmas sign.
Take a look...
When my husband found this board during his outdoor clean-up I think he knew I'd make great use of it!

A few years ago I made a bunch of outdoor furniture using pressure treated 1x3's and I guess this was an extra piece.
The summer weather did a great job of distressing this board so all I really needed to do was to give the top a quick and rough coat of white paint. I say rough because I was not careful to cover the whole thing and I left the edges natural.
The stencils were leftover from this Christmas sign. I made 2 sets with my Cricut Joy and used one for the sign and now had these.
I laid the stencil on the white painted board and stenciled with black craft paint.
I left out the "I" in Christmas to stencil a small tree using a set of inexpensive stencils I had on hand. I stenciled a few more trees around the edges of the sign using a beautiful green called Bayberry by Fusion Mineral Paint.
I wasn't careful about placement because at this point I wanted it to look really rustic.
When the paint dried I sanded the edges lightly across the top of the sign to distress it even more.
I used Transitions Decorative Glaze as a stain over the top, just paint it on and wipe it off. This my all time favorite stain and antiquing gel.
The other sign in the photo is the one I originally cut the letters for. You can read all about that grungy Christmas sign here.
That's all it took to turn the old board my husband found into a rustic and heavily distressed sign for our Christmas home.

I hope you'll think about repurposing reclaimed wood you might find in your yard or on a morning walk. See what other fun projects I've made from what I found!
