Red, White and Blue Recycled Flower Pocket
A flower pocket is a quick and easy way to display faux flowers of all kinds.
I've made several over the years and they look great and sell well.
Today I'm trying a new crackle technique along with using one of my favorite stencils for making easy stars!
Take a look...

How to do a fun crackle technique:
I started with 2 boards to test out a crackle technique using hairs pray. Yep, regular hair spray that most of us have at home. You can buy it at the dollar store if you don't.
I painted my boards a dark grey, almost black with a Fusion Mineral Paint I mixed myself.
Supplies needed to create a recycled flower pocket:
- recycled blue jeans
- white chalky paint
- dark grey paint
- hair spray
- flag stencil
When the paint dried I sprayed on a generous amount of hair spray. The places where I used the most hair spray crackled the best.
I let the hair spray dry then painted over it with Waverly Chalk Paint in Plaster.
When the white paint dried you could see the crackle. I sanded the edges and I wasn't sure what to do with the test boards at this point but early this morning I had an idea.
I used the bottom rolled 6" hem of a pair of jeans I was giving away to create a pocket around the board.
I slipped the cuff over the board and stapled it on the back with a staple gun.
The best stencil for making stars:
This part was an afterthought or I would have done it before I added the
denim.
I used my favorite stars and stripes stencil
to stencil red stars onto the crackle background.

When the stars were dry I turned over the piece and added a small length of rope for a hanger.
I will sand off the top row of partial stars before I continue.
All that was left to do was to drop in some faux flowers!

This was a quick and easy project (sans the crackle experiment) but can be done with any board and a quick coat of paint.
It can be done with blue stars and red fabric or striped fabric, or even old flag fabric. Use your imagination and give it a go!
