Cement Look Lantern

I saw the cutest cement look lanterns in Anthropologie lately and I knew I could find a lantern and duplicate the look with my own spin.

Cement paint is one of my favorite things to make and I've made it several different ways in the past.

Today I'm using the easiest paint treatment on a thrifted lantern to give it a great look!

Take a look...

I'm calling this an Anthro dupe but it is actually just a spin off of the look. I love their cement look and I have just the lantern to try it on!

I found this lantern in the thrift store a while back.

I like the way it looks but when I saw the Anthro lanterns I decided to try this easy cement treatment and give it a makeover.

I removed the wire hanger from the lantern then used a fine grit sandpaper to slightly scuff it up.

I am using Fusion Mineral Paint in the color Hazelwood which looks so much like the color of cement already. I also used this color on all the interior doors in my house and I just love the way they came out!

You can use other grey colored craft paints but I find that Fusion Mineral Paint sticks so well to surfaces, especially ceramics.

I poured about a half cup of Hazelwood into a container and added about a 1/4 cup of baking soda. I mixed the paint until it had a thick consistency.

I used a soft brush to dab the paint all over the lantern. A pouncing of the brush gave the lantern a textured look much like cement.

I poured a little bit of white paint on the side and dipped my brush in every so often just to give the color a little variation, just a tiny drop here and there.

I let the lantern dry overnight and then sprayed it with a matte sealer. Fusion Mineral Paint is self sealing but I wanted to be sure it would be extra durable.

I added the wire hanger back on the top and that's it!
