Creative Uses for Vintage Hangers

Hey! Anyone out there a fan of vintage hangers?

I sure am and today I'm going to show you how I've used them to create easy DIY projects as well as using them in my home for decoration for storage and for organizing!

Vintage hangers are easy to find at garage sales, thrift stores and antique stores.

You can get all kinds at great prices and if you're really lucky you may find some with vintage signage on them!

Take a look...

First off are the two vintage hangers I have in my small kitchen half bath.  These hangers hang my latest issues of HGTV magazine.  My daughter is an editor at the magazine and these magazines are hung on these gorgeous hangers with a whole lot of pride.

The hooks that hold the hangers onto the shiplap are great! I use these hooks on siding, shiplap, and even board and batten.

In my office/craft room/den I have a large metal mug holder on the side of a large vintage cupboard This is where I hang string, cord, wire and twine. I have decorative vintage hangers between the rows of cup holders to give the display a little charm.

On the other side of the vintage cupboard I have a vintage hanger holding a piece of a shoe bag. This shoe bag holds all my sunglasses, reading glasses and glasses I really should be using to see.

Speaking of my office, the door, and all the interior doors on the first floor, were just recently painted with a gorgeous dark grey paint. I use a vintage hanger on the door with one side that says "office" and the other side to display "do not disturb". You never know when you may want to lock yourself in the craft room and not want to be disturbed.

Next up is the board and batten wall I made for the upstairs hallway. A vintage hanger looks great hanging on one of the hooks I added to the top board.

This idea using a vintage hanger and a narrow rectangular frame holds a roll of brown paper to use for drawing, wrapping gifts, or just keeping my work area clean.

These projects are very similar. I made signs in both an American flag and an open sign using painted canvas and I hung them from vintage hangers.

These were fun and easy projects. I used to use this open sign in my little shop it was since copied by a local merchant and I see it every time I walk through town.

The hanger for this project was cut and screwed into a wire basket.

The basket can be used as display to hold vintage dishes or dish towels.

Another project using a frame and a vintage hanger is this string holder. I hung the frame from a hanger and using dowels on hooks, display more rolls of string and jute.

This one is one of my favorites! I organize scarves in the closet using a vintage hanger. Visit this post and you'll even see how to tie the scarves!

Lastly, on Valentine's day I made this adorable envelope using cardboard and hung it from a vintage hanger. The hanger added to the vintage charm.
