DIY Metal Halloween Bats

In the past I've made paper bats and hung them around my home for Halloween.

This year when I saw metal bats for sale at a crazy price I decided to make some of my own.

I'm using something today that you may even have in your garage but can be purchased at the hardware store very inexpensively.

I'm loving my DIY flying bats and the best part is that they will last forever!

Take a look...

The "metal" I am using for these bats is actually roof flashing and it can be purchased in rolls.

I have a roll of flashing in my basement that I've been using on projects for years!

I started with the roll of flashing and a couple of paper cut outs of bats in different sizes.

I traced the bats onto the flashing with a Sharpie and cut it out.  Another bonus with the roof flashing is that it is easy to cut and can be cut with a pair of large scissors. You may want to wear gloves, the flashing can be sharp.

Next, I snipped off the sharp corners all around the bat and used a sanding block to smooth down the edges.

I used a metal ruler to bend the bat wings in the directions I wanted them to go.

You can bend the wings either forward or back.

Using black matte spray paint, I painted both the front and backs of each bat, this took a couple of coats.

When the paint dried I turned them over and put a piece of double stick removable adhesive to the back of the bats.

I then just peeled the adhesive and hung the bats to the wall.

That's it!
