Repurposed Metal Lanterns
Recently I was offered two metal plant propagation stands. They were interesting, metal sides with test tubes and all. They were also very dirty!
Biggest problem is that I don't do indoor plants. I kill them every time!
I can do a lot of things but I must have the brownest thumb on the planet!
I decided to take those vessels and turn them into something else of course!
Take a look...
The very first thing I did was to clean the metal frame and the test tubes very well. They were actually filthy and rusted!
Surprisingly they came pretty clean!

The next step was to spray paint the metal parts. A quick coat of matte black spray paint was all it took to transform them into lantern-like pieces.
I thought about adding a handle to each of them but then decided that I liked them simple and all they really needed was a candle. And then I had another idea... keep reading!
I am using tall thin battery operated candles just set inside the metal cage of the lanterns.
And that's it!
It couldn't be easier and I really think they were meant to be lanterns anyway!
If you're interested I found similar propagation stations on Etsy.

Another idea is to replace the test tubes and fill them with fairy lights.
The fairy lights give a great glow at night too!

These new lanterns pair very well with the large one I already had!
So before you toss or say no to a pass along gift, think about what it could become! Sometimes it just needs a little paint!
