Stenciling with Mod Podge
I'm giving a fun Fall craft a try today! I'm stenciling with Mod Podge!
Yep and you should see the pretty texture it makes on anything!
Any stencil will do and you can even use school glue so you don't need any special supplies!
Take a look...
I'm using Mod Podge gloss for this project but white school glue will work too!

I began by cutting out an heirloom pumpkin shape with my scroll saw from a piece of stained scrap wood and sanding the pumpkin with an electric sander to soften the edges.
Next, using this great penny tile stencil from Old Sign Stencils (but you can use any stencil) I stenciled the stained wooden pumpkin with Mod Podge.
I used a foam pouncer to just pounce straight down on the stencil with a thick layer of Mod Podge then removed the stencil.
I used a hair dryer to dry the Mod Podge.
Once the stenciled design was dry I used one quick coat of acrylic paint over the design on the pumpkin and immediately wiped it off with a damp rag.
I painted the sides and the back with the same paint but the top with the design is wiped back and lighter.
I just love this look!
Next I grabbed a few supplies:
- wire wrapped around a dowel to create a tendril
- green moss
- green raffia for a bow
- a cork stem
I glued the tendril, the moss, the bow and the cork to the top of the pumpkin.
Next, I used a piece of tea stained painter's cloth as a tag. I stamped the letters PUMPKIN PATCH with snap together letter stampers then added a small grommet and a string.
To distress the edges of the pumpkin I used a Distress Ink stamp pad rubbed around the edges of the pumpkin.
That's it!
This is the coolest way to add a design and texture to anything!
This fun rustic pumpkin is ready to decorate for Fall!
