Decoupaged Mushroom Pumpkin

Do you decorate for Fall? If you do you may have faux pumpkins you pull out year after year like I do.

And by now you have all seen decoupaging with napkins techniques, you've probably even tried it yourself.

When I found the cutest little mushroom cocktail napkins at Home Goods I headed straight for some of my old beat-up pumpkins to give them a brand new look!

Take a look...

In the past I've decoupaged small dollar store pumpkins using newsprint. I embellished them with hardware stems and they came out adorable!

Just recently I painted over a few old faux pumpkins I've been decorating with for years.

And today, I will combine decoupaging with the cutest mushroom napkins and another of the old heirloom pumpkins that desperately needed a makeover.

I began with said pumpkin. It's dented and dirty and is two steps from being tossed. Being who I am, however, and doing what I do, I gave it a new look.

I started out by pulling apart the mushroom cocktail napkins and saving only the top printed layer.

I tore the napkin into small parts and used Mod Podge to glue it to the pumpkin.

I went around the whole pumpkin with pieces of napkin and then hung it up to dry so it wouldn't stick on the bottom and pull off the napkin.

This is layer one.

If you only wanted to use one layer of napkins on your pumpkin you can paint the pumpkin white before gluing the napkins on.

When the first layer dried I went around the pumpkin giving it 2 more layers of napkins then gave the whole pumpkin a coat of Mod Podge and hung it up to dry again.

Now it was time for a little bling! 💖

I used Gold Leaf Rub and Buff on the plastic stem to give it a new look.

Lastly, I used gold leaf flakes from the Dollar Tree and painted Mod Podge around the base of the stem. I drizzled the gold flakes around the stem and across the top of the pumpkin then, went over the flakes with a coat of Mod Podge.
