Repurposed Glass Bell

As you know I love to repurpose items rather than send them to the land fill.

When I recently replaced my kitchen pendant lights I turned the glass globes into something I use around my house all the time.

Today, I'm repurposing another glass globe into a beautiful glass bell that actually rings!

Decorate it for the seasons by easily changing out the bow.

Take a look...

Like I said, I'm repurposing the glass globes from my kitchen pendant lights.  I never really loved them and ended up replacing them with black metal shades that were way more my style.

That small upgrade left me with glass globes that I recently turned into a couple of different glass cloches for decorative items.

This time I'm using one to turn into a beautiful glass bell.

The first thing I did was to cut down a wooden candle holder with a miter saw to use as the top of the bell.

I added a screw eye into the bottom of the wooden candle holder so I could hang a "dinger" inside the bell.

I used E6000 glue to attach it to the top of the glass globe.

I also added a large screw eye to the top of the wooden candle holder so I could hang the bell.

Once the glue was dry I needed a "dinger". Is there another name for that? LOL

I ended up using a glass flower knob with a piece of chain attached to it. I just grabbed a couple of random hardware pieces and the E6000 glue again to create the dinger for the inside of the bell.

I attached the chain to the screw eye inside with wire.

That was just about it!

I tried a red bow that would be perfect for Christmas decorating. You could also add pine branches and pinecones around the top.

For now I'm using a black and white gingham bow so I can hang this cutie in my kitchen for the Fall.

For Christmas you can use Gold Leaf Rub and Buff to make the top of the bell gold!

This was a simple up-cycle and resulted in a gorgeous bell that sounds beautiful when it rings...
